Bio: The Velazquez Family Singers (VFS)
The Velazquez Family Singers (VFS) are a powerhouse Jersey-based gospel group celebrated for their seamless fusion of classical, contemporary, and traditional gospel music. Led by their father, Victor Velazquez—a classically trained tenor and veteran of the historic Opera Ebony—the group features his three children: Alexia, Victoria, and Emmanuel.
VFS rose to local prominence in the mid-2000s, securing back-to-back wins at the McDonald’s Gospelfest in 2006 and 2007. Their signature sound, defined by intricate four-part harmonies and soaring operatic influences, earned them consecutive Stellar Award nominations: first for "Children’s Project of the Year" for their 2009 debut album, Family & Friends, and again in 2010 for their moving single, "While We Still Have Time."
The family's vocal versatility also led them to join the acclaimed community choir KEEDZ. On the choir's 2008 album, Stand on the Word, Victoria, Alexia, and Emmanuel served as core members and featured soloists. Their contributions include lead vocals on tracks like "Love Is All," "Can You Feel It," "Crazy," and "World Hold On." The album's breakout title single, "Stand on the Word," featuring Alexia on lead vocals, became a massive international hit, reaching #12 on the French Singles Chart. This success propelled the group onto the global stage for an extensive European tour, where they brought their gospel-rooted harmonies to international audiences.
Beyond their recording success, Alexia and Victoria have become staples of the New York stage, delivering high-profile tribute performances at Lincoln Center for icons like Chaka Khan and Raven-Symoné. In 2010, the sisters provided background vocals for Grammy-winner Jill Scott during the electrifying opening number of the Black Girls Rock! Awards on BET.
Deeply committed to serving their community, VFS uses their platform for global impact; their 2010 single "While We Still Have Time" served as a cornerstone fundraiser for Haitian earthquake relief.
In 2013, the family joined the Bronx-based community choir, Gospel Soul Children of New York. Victoria and Alexia’s vocal prowess was again front and center in the regional gospel community as they performed lead vocals on the group's single recording, "I'll Go."
